We extended our footprint in early 2010 to include Legal Services. During this year, we will be working closely with employers and other stakeholders (including regulatory and representative bodies) to

  • identify the key skills issues and needs for Legal Services
  • help employers and individuals to be better skilled
  • influence employers, policy makers and the skills system to take full account of skill needs in Legal Services.

We provide a unique focus upon skills and workforce matters across the whole Legal Services workforce in the UK.

Work to date

We were commissioned by Government in 2009 to report on skills needs within Professional and Financial Services (which includes Legal Services). The Professional and Financial Services Cluster Report is now available on our Research Reports page.| We have also created a handy briefing document about Legal Services in the UK.

Work in 2010-11

We are now undertaking more detailed skills and workforce research focusing exclusively on Legal Services. This will involve consulting and working closely with employers and key stakeholders across legal services to produce

  • Labour Market Research - an analysis of the current and future workforce
  • Research - identifying current and future skill priorities within the Legal Services sector and an action plan to address them
  • an assessment of the current and future qualification needs of those working in the Legal Sector
  • defining the range of functions undertaken within Legal Services - which can be used as the starting point for any new qualification development
  • defining career pathways within Legal Services
  • Careers Information, Advice and Guidance materials to attract young people into the workforce and to aid people considering a career change.

Further updates will appear here.
