Key Developments in Northern Ireland
We have worked successfully with our Northern Ireland Country Group - a superb forum for identifying the skills needed to manage change - to develop skills for safer communities in Northern Ireland.
We lead a range of key work in response to employers' needs. Below is a summary of what we have been working on recently.
Northern Ireland E-Forum project
2010/2011 has seen the successful completion of the NI E-Forum project, aimed at improving electronic communication lines between justice sector employers, and encouraging more collaboration across the sector. With a mixture of key employers and learning providers coming together to help shape future collaboration, the NI Team aim to successfully develop tools and systems to help the NI justice sector grow. More collaboration and joined up working can only help support the development of our employers.

Skills Symposium on the devolution of justice and policing powers
Northern Ireland Justice Minister, David Ford MLA, emphasised the importance of workforce and skills development in sustaining an effective Justice System in Northern Ireland at our Skills Symposium held in the Parliament Buildings in October 2010.
The event, funded by the Department for Employment and Learning and supported by the Department of Justice, highlighted the vital importance of workforce and skills development in order for an effective Justice system to achieve a safe and secure Northern Ireland. Research report on training in the voluntary advice sector
In 2009 we were asked to carry out research for the Advice Services Alliance in Northern Ireland, to identify accredited and non-accredited training provision available to the voluntary advice sector and via online consultation with learning providers, map the programmes to National Occupational Standards. The work was sponsored by the Department of Social Development.
The research report below proposes recommendations to help develop an integrated training strategy for the advice sector. We would like to thank members of the Project Steering Group for their advice and support during this project, and all the members of the Voluntary Legal Advice sector in Northern Ireland who took the time to complete the questionnaire and attend the workshops. Without this support, the project outcomes could not have been achieved.

Ministerial Launch of Careers Fact Sheets for Northern Ireland
Following on from our seminar last year, the Department for Employment and Learning agreed to publish careers factsheets for each of the Sector Skills Councils (SSCs) based on Labour Market Information (LMI). We led this cross-SSC project as chair of the Alliance's Northern Ireland LMI group. The factsheets were officially launched in July 2010 and Judith Thompson, Northern Ireland Country Manager, represented SSCs, alongside the Minister for Employment and Skills, Sir Reg Empey and Northern Ireland Advisor on Employment and Skills, Bill Maginnis CBE.
